Maison garage: old parking as tiny home in Bordeaux, France

Looking at small houses, I may have to share a home with my mother soon, and since I have kids and we both need space I'm researching ways to share expenses but still have our independence.

Spotted: Mason Jar Planters

Spotted: Mason Jar Planters:

mason jar planter

How precious are these mason jar planters from Not Just a Housewife? She mounted the jars onto reclaimed wood using hose clamps, then filled them up with potting soil and planted herbs in a sunny hallway! In her tutorial, she says she used new mason jars, but I bet that this would work with eclectic glassware from the thrift store, too! Or, you can start saving jars as you use them up in the kitchen.

The only change I'd make to the design is to fill the bottom 1/4 to 1/3 of the way with rocks, to give the plants some drainage. After drowning a perfectly healthy oregano plant this summer, I've learned my lesson!

Weight Watchers

So, I have been doing Weight Watchers for the past four weeks. I have lost 7 pounds so far. This past week I fell off the wagon and although I didn't completely abandon my new eating habits I indulged in more sweets than I should have. The sweets are a big problem for me, I love sugar. I also didn't go the YMCA at all last week. I was just too tired and busy. I really feel awful about not going but I did alot of yard work and housework over the weekend which kind of makes up for missing the gym, right?

Well anyway, this week I am definitely back on my weight loss/lifestyle plan. I want to make sure I do everything I can to live a full life and be here for my children and their children (when they get old enough to have them) for many years to come. So wish me luck, I'm going in :)

Design Inspiration: Black Doors | Apartment Therapy DC

I think I would like something like this between my living and dining rooms. There were definitely doors there previously because I can see where the catch was in the top part of the door jamb.

I just have to figure out how to do this on a budget.

How I Spent My New Year

I spent all New Year Weekend in bed with a fever, chills, stuffy nose, and body aches. I know it wasn't the flu but more like the mini flu. By Sunday, the fever was gone but I still have the stuffy nose, and now I have a sore throat and my left ear is clogged so when I talk it is in stereo, so happy new year to me.

Puppies!!

Last week my dog, Scarlet, had puppies. It was an accidental breeding and I was upset that it happened. When I first got her, I got her with the intention of breeding her and I did, once. The first litter was ok and I sold two of the puppies and kept two and one died.

After, that I decided not to breed anymore because I felt it was irresponsible for me to breed dogs when there are so many that need homes in shelters.

So anyway it had been three years and got lucky with keeping her away from male dogs when she went into heat. Then, this winter I was working in the yard and had her outside with me and my other dogs. I looked over and she and my daughter's dog, Cesar, were tied together. Nothing I could do then because you can't pull them apart without injuring one or both of them.

So, we have six beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Pomeranian puppies. I have been fortunate in that on the day I listed them in the newspaper I got three interested people and received one deposit. One of my friends from school is getting one and one of my daughter'sfriends is getting one. We decided to keep one, just couldn't help it.

When Scarlet had her first litter, they were pure breed CKCS pups. Unfortunately my male, Jack, died two years ago. One of the puppies she had was a tricolor and I sold her to my cousin. A decision I regret because she turned out to be a beautiful, loving dog that I would have loved to have. So this time we decided to keep one.

Hair progress

It has been 9 1/2 months since my last perm. I love having my hair long, but I am ready to cut it so I can see the beauty of my natural hair. I said I will wait until it has been one year to the BC. I am starting to get impatient but I know I would not be comfortable with a TWA.

Two weeks ago I used henna for the first time. The smell was not too bad. I am happy with the effects I got and the color it deposited into my hair. I will definitely be doing this monthly.

I have still been washing my hair with shampoo but I make sure it does not have sulfates and my conditioner has no cones. I have been using Aubrey's Honeysuckle Rose. I love the way it smells but the conditioner does not really help to much with detangling. I have started to think about mixing a little bit of a cheapie, non cone conditioner to it to help with detangling.

I'll post pics of the before and after henna.

School and term papers

I am going back to school for my degree in Health Care Mgmt. I love going to school and learning new things, I don't even mind doing term papers; what I do hate is doing oral presentations. I just do not understand why teachers insist on this. I am a very shy person, who does not like to draw alot of attention. I totally understand the whole thing about being a well rounded student but how is making me stand up in front of a room of people, that I hardly know, going to make me anything but a nervous, stuttering mess? Why do they feel the need to humiliate people this way? I feel that doing an oral presentation should be extra credit and a choice, not mandatory.

Oil paint is a disaster

This weekend, I painted to of my kitchen doors. Since they were previously painted with oil paint, I primed them first, with oil based primer. This is the recommendation I have seen doing research on the internet. Well, after priming I painted with a latex paint.

When I took the painter's tape down, the tape peeled the paint right off with it. Maybe it has not had enough time to cure, but I think I will just stop trying to take the easy way out and strip the doors.

Well at least I know what I am going to be doing the rest of this week, Yah!
